Advanced Practicum on Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) for Dietetics Professionals
Lecturer: Cosette Fakih El Khoury, PhD, LD
CPECS: 3
The Advanced Practicum on Chronic Kidney Disease for Dietetics Professionals is a case-based clinical training focused on the nutrition management of individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hemodialysis (HD). This advanced practicum helps dietitians strengthen their clinical reasoning, nutrition assessment, and intervention-planning skills in renal nutrition care.
Participants will explore the stages of CKD, evidence-based dietary interventions, and the unique nutritional considerations of patients receiving hemodialysis. Practical group work and case applications are integrated throughout the training to reinforce clinical decision-making.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this practicum, participants will be able to:
Understand kidney function and CKD progression
Conduct nutrition assessments for CKD patients
Apply evidence-based nutrition interventions in renal care
Develop individualized meal plans for CKD and HD patients
Perform nutrition-focused physical evaluations
Address complex nutrition challenges in diabetic dialysis patients
Improve clinical reasoning using case-based approaches
